Divorce Mediation
What is divorce mediation?
Mediation is a voluntary process that will help you sort out the practical and financial arrangements you need to make if you are divorcing or separating. You and your partner will meet together with a third person; a mediator. The mediator is there to support your discussions. They will not take sides and will help the two of you organise and agree on your future.
What does a mediator do?
Your mediator will help you to:
- Identify your needs
- Clarify issues
- Explore solutions
- Negotiate your own agreement
During meetings a mediator will encourage both of you to put forward ideas and suggestions for how best to resolve your issues. We aim to reduce stress during your divorce or separation. All of our mediators are qualified. They are recognised members of the UK College of Mediation and work to its Code of Practice. They have worked with a wide variety of clients so you can expect to receive a high quality of service.
Ways we can help
Arrangements for your children
Divorce or separation can be particularly difficult for children. They can be adversely affected by conflict between their parents. Mediation can help reduce conflict. We will work with you to ensure you arrive at the best solutions for your children.
During mediation you will cover issues such as where your children will live, or how often you get to see them. At the end of mediation, when you have reached agreement, we will write up a Statement of Outcome. This will be a summary of the decisions and agreements you have made.
Financial and property matters
We will help you to review all aspects of your finances, including property, loans, earnings, pensions etc. You will be encouraged to suggest how your finances can be fairly divided.
When agreement is reached we will write up a Memorandum of Understanding - which will outline all of the decisions you have taken.
The documents you get from us will be clear. Your solicitor can use them to create legally binding agreements.
